Brett Favre joined Dan Marino as the only quarterbacks to throw for 60,000 yards in a career during the second quarter of Green Bay's 34-0 win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Congratulations ole' man!

Favre, who needed 94 yards coming into the game, found running back Vernand Morency for a short pass to the right side for 3 yards for exactly 60,000. Two plays later, he hit favorite target Donald Driver for a 19-yard gain.

Favre now trails Marino's all-time mark of 61,361 by 1,105 yards, after throwing for 351 yards and three touchdowns against the Vikings.

Favre, who has started 245 straight games, is having one of his statistically best years. The Packers came into Sunday's game an NFC best 7-1 and have won 11 of their last 12 games, including a six-game road winning streak.

Favre, in his 17th season, is on pace to shatter his best season for yards passing set in 1995, when he threw for 4,415 yards with 38 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Green Bay went 11-5 that year, losing in the NFC Championship Game to Dallas. The Packers won the Super Bowl the following year, the only title in the three-time MVP's career.

Große Ehre für Packers- Quarterback Favre 2 Years, 3 Months ago Karma: 4

QB Brett Favre will retire after 17 seasons with Packers

By Associated Press

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Brett Favre has decided to retire from the NFL after 17 seasons.

Career Statistics
Att: 8,758
Comp: 5,377
Yards: 61,655
TD/INT: 442/288

FOX Sports first reported Tuesday that the Green Bay Packers quarterback informed the team in the last few days. ESPN.com said that according to Favre's agent the quarterback told coach Mike McCarthy of his decision.

Only two years removed from perhaps his worst season, Favre had a resurgence in 2007. He broke several career records. Among them was Dan Marino's career mark for career touchdown passes. He powered the Packers to an NFC North title and a 13-3 regular-season record. He was named to his ninth Pro Bowl.

If it is true, then I have to say THANK YOU #4. You are one of the greatest players ever playing this game! Thank you for all these years!

Re:Brett Favre 1 Year, 7 Months ago Karma: 4
Here we go...#4 is back! With the JETS???
As much as I like Brett, I would have wished that the would have stayed retired.
Maybe I'm wrong and he will bring the JETS close to the playoffs...but I seriously doubt that.

Brett Favre held up his new green jersey Thursday evening, hoping he made the right decision.

"To a certain degree, I don't know what I'm getting into," he said.

Favre's summertime soap opera ended Wednesday night when the Green Bay Packers traded their iconic quarterback to the New York Jets, who haven't had a star of No. 4's stature since the days Joe Namath was slinging passes.

"I'm here for one reason. Not to do commercials, Broadway all those things," Favre said after joining New York for its exhibition game in Cleveland. "I'm here to help the Jets win."

It's not certain when the three-time MVP will be ready to play. But he assured it will be soon.

"I'm a little out of shape, compared to the other guys," he said.

Five months after a tearful goodbye to a Hall of Fame career, Favre, who won a Super Bowl title and set all sorts of records in 16 seasons before his acrimonious split with the Packers, is now part of a Jets team which went 4-12 last season.

"It's like a marriage that ends," Packers president Mark Murphy said. "It happens. Neither party is at fault."

Favre spent the night at his home near Hattiesburg, Miss., before flying to New Jersey to meet with Jets officials. They then boarded a charter for Cleveland.

"The last 24 hours have been crazy," Favre said.

For the moment, Favre brings the Jets publicity - second stringers in the New York area, they're far overshadowed by the champion Giants.

Already, his jersey is being scooped up by fans who awakened Thursday morning to the news that the Mississippi country boy with the cannon right arm is on his way to the big city.

Told that 3,000 new jerseys had been sold online, he joked, "That's all?"

Until the deal was announced, it appeared the 38-year-old might be on his way to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But the Jets, who went to camp with Chad Pennington and Kellen Clemens battling to be the starter, persisted and landed Favre for a fourth-round draft pick in 2009.

Pennington, benched midway through last season, was released Thursday afternoon.

A draft pick is hardly a steep price for a player who holds league records in career yards (61,655), touchdowns (442), wins (160) and hasn't missed a start in 275 consecutive games.
