... in the sea container!!! You won't believe it, but our "house tiger", Tigger, who got lost during our move from Germany back to the USA is alive!
We received our container yesterday (May 31) and he was trapped insight, wrapped up in a piece of furniture with no way out. He was without food and water for 43 days!
His "journey" went from Hechingen, Germany to Stuttgart by truck, then by train to Bremerhafen by vessel over the Atlantic to Charleston, South Carolina, then by train to Atlanta, and from there by truck to our home in Newnan, Georgia. He was dehydrated and lost almost 12 pounds down to 8 pounds but seems to be ok. He recognized us and walked around. We brought him to the vet where he will stay for the next 48 hours in intensive care. His bloodwork was ok, and his kidneys are working. He has a little fat liver, but he was a huge cat before his "trip" - so who knows, he probably has had that one before ;) His story was part of the 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock evening news on Fox 5 Atlanta. We will keep you informed about his condition and will continue reporting on his and our nightmare. For now, we are so glad that he is back and alive! Update: Tigger is doing fine again...
Last Friday, we got Tigger back from the intensive care at the animal clinic and we had been able to take him to his new home.. He gained in 48 hours already over 2 pounds. He had his 2 paws wrapped up since he had been on IV's to get him hydrated again. Upon pick up, he was so happy to see us again that he jumped in the kennel on his free will
We had the greatest fear that he would be traumatized or that he would have had some injuries. But as far as we can tell, he is doing great and even endurs the pedding of our daughter Jesslyn He even ignors the hissing of his "brother" Blitz. Since he was trapped in the Container for so long, he smells really bad, which doesn't bother us that much, but our second cat Blitz has a huge problem with that.
Currently we are doing what it takes to get him back to normal again. He sleeps every night in our bed, gets some extra pedding, and a special can of tuna. Now, after about 1 week ,he gained over 1 kilo in body weight. He seems to be the good old kitty again.
Here a couple pictures of his adventure:
